Find a Family Business adviser

Many business families, especially those in their Founder (1st) Generation, are “doers” rather than “users”.  Consequently, they don’t use advisers or consultants any more than they have to, and they can be quite closed when they do use them.

So, when they recognise they’re facing a major challenge (eg: succession), or are already in crisis (eg: medical trauma, business stress or family conflict), they need to feel very confident, very quickly, that they’re doing the right thing.  Otherwise, they’ll try something else, or do nothing.

FBI makes it easy for them to feel confident they’re making the right decision to engage the right adviser(s) and is there to support the assignment, without undue interference.

Self-Help or Guidance?

Different families operate in different ways.  Some research for months before deciding what to do; others prefer to delegate the decision to somebody they trust to tell them what to do.  Most sit somewhere between these extremes.

FBI and The Solutionist Group (www.solutionist.com.au) provide a wealth of information in blogs, podcasts, and videos to help decision makers get comfortable before they make initial contact.

If a family is looking for an accredited adviser, we offer 2 options without cost or obligation:

  1. Contact and/or talk to an experienced human to get empathic and live guidance about appropriate people and processes for their circumstances.
  2. Select and contact your own preferred adviser(s) from our list using our “Find an Adviser” search tool.

If the family wants FBI to supervise and quality control the engagement our costs are covered by the adviser’s fees.  There are no extra or hidden costs.

Quality Assurance & Help

We recognise that the very idea of engaging a complete stranger to tell you how to sort out your family and/or your business is both daunting and demeaning, especially for people used to exercising considerable control and independence.

FBI can’t provide any performance guarantees, because the nature of family business advisory work is simply too broad and unpredictable for anybody to remotely predict the eventual outcomes of any assignment.  However, we do promise to ensure that each family business client who appoints an adviser through FBI receives the high quality services they reasonably expected to receive from an FBI adviser.

To this end, on request we will consult with clients and their advisers, and review any work done on any assignment, to help ensure successful outcomes, and/or to rectify any problems that have arisen.  This service is cost-free to clients.
